Jason Puckett, my former partner at KJR-FM, started his own podcast at PuckSports.com in March and has been rolling along ever since.
If you haven’t caught wind of what Puck’s been doing, it’s a lot. He’s been working hard to get his new venture up and running, and it’s quite honestly, better than what he was doing when he had a radio show.
I say that for several reasons - he’s still his smart-ass self, but now you get more of him without the endless commercial breaks that are so common in sports radio. Plus he brought over the same guests that he had at KJR, notably Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, Bill Krueger from ROOT Sports, John Canzano from JohnCanzano.com, Rob Staton of Seahawks Draft Blog.com and Chris Egan from KING-TV.
He added fellow smart-ass Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times to the list of guests who appear on a weekly basis.
Puck also has special podcasts during the football season, highlighted by Crimson Corner, which features WSU head coach Jake Dickert and other prominent coaches and players.
On top of that, he has weekly podcasts that focus on the Dawgs and the Cougs - “Puck the Huskies” with Jordan Reffett and Elise Woodward, and “Old Crimson” with Paul Sorensen and me.
Puck does a live podcast at 10 a.m. weekdays and sprinkles in all of his guests after his opening monologue on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I join him for the first hour on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
All of this is free to listeners and viewers at PuckSports.com and wherever you find podcasts. You can also download the PuckSports app to get even easier access to the constantly evolving content on his podcast.
In the latest development at PuckSports.com, Puck has started Puck’s Posse, a pay for subscription service that gives you additional programming.
And let me say this about that - he’s not asking for much. It’s inexpensive and a terrific bang for your buck. I know he has reservations about charging anything at all, but he’s still giving out so much of what he’s doing for nothing and needs to make a living himself.
Puck quit after I got fired, and I will never forget a gesture like that from a guy who’s more of a friend than a colleague and co-worker. I hope he ends up making as much as he did at KJR and then some to validate the risk he’s taking by going out on his own.
Again, even though it’s a nominal investment, Puck wants to make it more than worth your while to join Puck’s Posse. Members will receive long-form content with a Mariners Round Table featuring Divish and Times reporter Adam Jude, assessing the offseason and moves the Mariners need to make.
Puck will also bring back a segment he popularized at KJR called “Dynamic Duos,” interviewing two players or coaches or others involved in Seattle sports who were tied to the hip such as Shawn Kemp and Gary Payton, and Jim Zorn and Steve Largent. I can tell from Puck’s voice when he talked about “Dynamic Duos” that it means a lot to him. It tells me that he will will put everything he has into “Dynamic Duos” to make it a must listen.
Then in March, Puck’s Posse members will get bonus coverage of the NFL draft, previewing and assessing it all from a Seahawks’ and league-wide perspective.
Each month, one Puck’s Posse member will win a $100 price that includes gift certificates - $50 to John Howe Steak, $25 to Georgetown Brewery and $25 to Flatstick Pub.
All of that for 5 bucks a month, it’s a heck of a deal and for me, it’s better than blowing it on the next losing football team I’ll wager on.
Puck’s Posse is a much better bet.
Hey Jim, as a new listener to Puck and yourself, I was pleasantly surprised to be able to meet you at a WSU vs BSU tailgate this fall. Really enjoy your guys stuff and was more than happy to join the Posse of misfits:).
