All perfectly stated, Jim. Jerry says it’s been abysmal for two months. But 2018 was the last time the Ms batting average wasn’t in the bottom 1/3 of MLB, and four times in that span they’ve been #29 or #30. That’s a lot more than two months of abysmal, and it’s a result that should have consequences, to paraphrase Jerry himself. Why is Edgar even there, after all these years not teaching guys to hit?
William, just a stupid move to get rid of the third-string hitting coach. It’s an ongoing theme of one season to the next, a lack of consistent punch in the lineup.
Well, we're 0-2 in Texas so far and today we get deGrom. Lovely. And tomorrow we'll likely make Kumar Rocker look like Don Drysdale. Speaking of the Dodgers, that's our next stop! By the end of this road trip, we may be for all intents and purposes, out of it. And don't fire Edgar, Dan, or Seitzer. Suit 'em up and send them up to bat! Why not?!!??
Jerry can make a good case for keeping his job because of the elite starters on the team and farm system he’s built, but bottom line, it still hasn’t been good enough.
Gilbert just got pulled after walking a batter with 2 outs in the 6th. His look when Wilson came out says it all. Instead of believing in your veteran pitcher to get the final out he pulls him, for what? Because a lefty is up next? Total horsesh*t.
I seriously wonder what would happen if Stanton went to DePoto and said “Enough is enough…checkbook is open, make a deal and salary is not an issue.”
Something tells me DePoto would still screw it up and pull off another trade for Suarez as his magic answer. The dude just loves pitching and would be happy with 12 starters and spend the rest of the season letting every game be a “Piggyback” game. He loves the idea that he has 6 or 7 guys down “grazing on the farm” and wasting away, as opposed to off loading one or two and getting a solid right handed OF (and not just another utility guy he loves so much).
Did anyone listen to Wilson’s reply when asked about the safety squeeze the Rangers executed the other night in game one? It was, “ well, there’s not a lot you can do there”……..WHAT THE F**K? The Rangers made 3 attempts at the bunt and not once did they crash from third and first to field it. It was like, okay have another run, you’re welcome. Wilson not only has zero in game instincts, he is not even making routine adjustments a high school coach can make. I was done with Wilson after game 7 of LCS when he pulled Woo out for Bazardo’s groove pitch to Springer to end the season and shot at the Series. Dipoto and Wilson both gotta go.
Tend to agree with you Don if they don’t make the playoffs this year. If you can’t slop out a division title against all of the other substandard teams in their division, changes have to be made. But with the Mariners, you can’t be guaranteed that changes will happen.
Hey, Jim…The bottom line is this situation, and everything for the last (Good Grief) 11 seasons, is the result of Jerry Dibozo. I’m tired of fans saying “Jerry fixed the farm system” or whatever. His overall results (Checks notes) suck. Two playoff appearances in 8 seasons since his “step back” is nice. But it’s also garbage. He should have been sent packing years ago.
Mike Stanton told me once something along the lines of how smart he felt Jerry was. In so many words he said he was a huge Jerry fan. At some point the luster will wear off one would think.
What about Larry? The clubhouse guy that picks up the towels… now that would’ve been a bold move. When people are talking about being better off with Servais there’s a definite problem. Seems like too much nepotism or DEI has led to this and it really is time to clean house. Before dumping players, let’s change the leadership. It worked in Boston and Philly.
It seems to have reached that point, but watch, right when you think they’re one of the worst teams ever, they’ll have an 8-1 homestand and restore the faith.
Why not fire Seitzer?
